Goal:

The purpose of this website is to provide an online, interactive resource for Saskatchewan educators at many grade levels. The material is specifically aimed at a Grade 9 level, but the website could be used from Grade 4 to adults. The main focus of the website is the archaeology of Saskatchewan, but the Excavation and Reconstruction modules are useful for illustrating archaeological techniques and interpretation to anyone, anywhere. There is also information about the environment of the past 10,000 years. Future updates of the website are anticipated, so if you've enjoyed it once, please come again.

Background:

The project began back in 1994 with a grant from the Coteau Culture and Heritage Centre for the creation of software that would allow students to experience an archaeological excavation. As matching funds were being sought, the internet became more and more attractive as a technology and software have made it possible to create interactive multimedia websites. Matching funds to start working on the project in earnest were obtained from the Canadian Millenium Partnership Program and the Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation. A combination of new technology, detailed subject knowledge and advanced graphics was then used to create an interesting and informative website.
